Giving the Gift of Equitable Transportation

The word Christmas evokes a myriad of sights and sounds, as well as a multitude of feelings. Jolly Christmas carols, colorful and vibrant Christmas lights, the aroma of evergreen trees and Christmas cookies… these sights and sounds readily come to mind at the mention of the word Christmas.

Another word that has become synonymous to Christmas is gift-giving. Gift-giving is regarded as one of the most beloved Christmas traditions.. So much so that we have come up with various forms of gift-giving such as exchange gifts and secret Santa. So much so that Americans spend an estimated $960 billion dollars on gifts and other holiday purchases every year.

Despite the shopping frenzy that tends to overcome the holidays, isn’t it true that our hearts long for gifts that are more meaningful and, often, intangible?

The Gift of Equitable Transportation

This season, Medstar continues to give the gift of equitable transportation. Transport equity is defined as affording everyone travel modes that are safe, secure, affordable and reliable. Yet. certain individuals often find themselves at a disadvantage in terms of mobility.

For instance, people on wheelchairs or those undergoing dialysis who are taking trips to hospitals or clinics do not easily find transportation. Even if they do, it can be expensive. In fact, transportation problems proved to be a primary challenge for low-income communities needing access to timely and essential medical care.

If there is a gift that is meaningful and useful, providing equitable transportation to those who need it most should probably be on top of the list..

Medstar Commitment

For almost four decades, Medstar has provided safe, reliable and affordable transportation for clients with unique medical needs. Throughout the years, we have offered wheelchair-accessible vehicles, bariatric transportation, secure passage for dialysis patients, patients with dementia and people suffering from terminal illnesses, as well as other forms of non-emergency medical transportation.

We have partnered with hospitals, clinics, medical institutions and other organizations committed to provide viable solutions to the current barriers to mobility among our clients.

This Christmas season, we at Medstar reaffirm our commitment to give the gift of equitable transportation to those who need it by driving happiness through service.
