About:

The Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) protects the safety, health, and rights of more than 3 million workers statewide. In addition to enforcing workplace safety and labor standards, L&I ensures injured workers have access to the medical care and support they need to recover and return to work. Through partnerships with transportation providers like Medstar, L&I helps eligible workers receive safe, reliable, and ADA-accessible rides to approved medical appointments and rehabilitation services.

How Medstar Supports Washington State L&I Clients

Medstar provides safe, timely, and ADA-compliant transportation services for injured workers and L&I-covered clients, including:

  • Transportation to and from authorized L&I medical appointments, evaluations, and physical therapy sessions.

  • Wheelchair-accessible vehicles and experienced drivers trained in assisting injured passengers with limited mobility or post-surgical needs.

  • Timely pickups and drop-offs coordinated with providers to help meet treatment plan requirements and reduce missed appointments.

  • Direct communication with L&I case managers to confirm eligibility, schedule rides, and document trip completion.

  • Flexible ride options across Washington State, including rural and underserved areas where injured workers may lack transportation access.

Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) – Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can Medstar provide transportation for L&I appointments?

Transportation for eligible L&I claimants is coordinated for traveling to medical appointments, therapy, or evaluations. When selected, we will work with providers and case managers to ensure reliable and timely service throughout the recovery process.

Q: How do I schedule a ride for an L&I-covered visit?

Speak with your L&I claims manager or medical provider. They will submit the necessary request and authorization to schedule your transportation based on your appointment location and medical needs.

Q: Are L&I rides with Medstar wheelchair accessible?

Yes. All authorized L&I rides are provided in ADA-compliant vehicles when needed. If you use a wheelchair or mobility device, make sure your provider includes that information when submitting the request.

Q: Does Medstar provide round-trip service for L&I appointments?

Yes. Most L&I-approved trips include round-trip service to and from your medical appointment. Be sure to confirm both legs of your trip with your claims manager or medical office during the scheduling process.

Q: Is there a cost to the injured worker for L&I transportation?

No. If transportation is authorized through L&I, there is no cost to the injured worker. Medstar will bill L&I directly for approved services.
